They Stayed Until the Restaurant Closed. Five Years Later, They Celebrated Two Weddings in One Weekend

Megan and Ravi first connected online, but it was their first date that made the relationship feel real. Dinner and drinks turned into hours of conversation, and by the time the restaurant closed, neither of them seemed ready for the night to end.

“From the very beginning, our humor just clicked,” Megan says. “During our first dinner date, there were no awkward moments. We were laughing and talking like we’d known each other forever.”

The more time they spent together, the more familiar that feeling became. Megan loved Ravi’s sense of humour, his huge heart and how deeply he cared for his family. “He’s a total social butterfly, which balances me perfectly since I’m usually the one sitting back and soaking everything in,” she says.

“He’s such a loving soul—always making me laugh, being an amazing dog dad, and just being so unconditionally kind.”

Ravi remembers that first date just as clearly. “We had such great conversations about life, family, friends, and so much more that we lost track of time and stayed until the restaurant closed.” He fell for the way Megan cared for the people around her, her ambition, and the small things she did without making a big deal of them. “She cooks the best meals, even watches scary movies with me even though she hates them, and takes such amazing care of our dogs.”

Meeting the families came naturally, although Megan’s dog Sophie arguably had the most important approval to give. Ravi passed. Megan’s mom quickly found another benefit to the relationship: at 6'5", Ravi meant Megan could finally wear her highest heels without thinking twice. Her dad, predictably, wanted to know if he played basketball.

Ravi fit easily into Megan’s family, and Megan found the same comfort with his. His dad, who grew up in England and loves soccer, was especially happy to learn that Megan had played at a high level. Before long, Ravi and his dad were showing up to her games as her loudest supporters.

After five years together, Ravi planned a trip to Puerto Vallarta with something much bigger in mind. Megan thought they were simply away together when, on the second day, Ravi proposed on the beach. The evening ended with a private dinner by the water and fireworks.

Then they took on a slightly ambitious wedding plan: two ceremonies on back-to-back days.

Over the next year and a half, Megan and Ravi planned an Anand Karaj followed the next day by a civil ceremony and reception. Securing venues for both dates was one of the trickier parts, and their planner, Kiran of Events by KJ, became central to pulling it all together.

“She was our absolute rock for both weddings,” Megan says. “From coordinating with vendors to managing the logistics, Kiran took care of everything with grace and professionalism.”

On August 9, 2024, Megan and Ravi celebrated their Anand Karaj at BC Paragon Farms. Megan wanted to honour Ravi’s culture while still feeling like herself and chose her lehenga from WellGroomed, while Ravi wore a custom sherwani by Shiv Chala.

Their favourite part was the ceremony itself, led by Granthi Harminder Singh. “He made us feel both at ease and allowed us to relax and enjoy the moment with each other side by side with our family and friends near us. Everything about the ceremony was beautiful and everything we could have imagined.”

The next day brought their civil ceremony and reception. One of their favourite moments was considerably less serious: the mid-aisle dip kiss they had rehearsed several times in their living room beforehand. The speeches were another highlight, mixing the stories that made everyone laugh with the ones that brought a few tears.

After planning two weddings in one weekend, Megan and Ravi’s advice is practical: start early, especially when it comes to the vendors you care most about, and stay on the same page with each other throughout the process.

“Prioritize what matters, stay flexible, and cherish every moment.”

Their relationship may have started with an online introduction, but what followed was built in much more ordinary places: long dinners, family gatherings, soccer games, life with their dogs, and the everyday ways they learned to take care of each other.

As Megan and Ravi put it, “Your wedding is one day, but your marriage is forever.”
