An AP Dhillon Concert Brought Them Together, and the Groom’s Sister Did the Rest

Kamal saw it before either of them did.

Jasleen was already close with Gursharan’s sister, which meant she was familiar with the family long before she ever really knew him. Gursharan, on the other hand, knew exactly who she was.

“I had my eyes on Jasleen for a while,” he shares. “But with us being in different cities and all, I never made a move. I always thought she was so beautiful, and I had heard from many people that she was an amazing and kind-hearted girl. Despite all that, I never took the chance to message her or get her attention. I found myself looking at her Instagram posts from time to time, basically stalking her a bit.”

Jasleen had no idea.

She also wasn’t particularly interested in being set up, or in finding something through Instagram. If it happened, she wanted it to happen naturally.

Then they both ended up at an AP Dhillon concert.

Gursharan was there with family and friends. Jasleen was there with hers. Somewhere in the crowd, Jasleen spotted Kamal and walked over to say hi.

And that was finally it.

“When my sister introduced us, I was so nervous and had butterflies,” Gursharan says. “It felt like I met my soulmate right then and there, even without talking to her. I gave her a side hug and just smiled.”

It was the first time Gursharan had seen her in person.

“I kept my eyes on her.”

Then Wo Noor started playing. He reached for her hand, pulled her into a twirl, and they danced and sang along together.

“In that moment,” Jasleen says, “the little girl within me fell head over heels.”

And then the concert ended. No numbers exchanged. No dramatic declaration. They simply went home.

Kamal, however, was not about to leave things there.

The next morning, Jasleen’s phone started buzzing. Kamal was telling her to give Gursharan a chance. Meanwhile, Gursharan was getting essentially the same conversation from his sister: stop waiting and message her.

He still didn’t.

“I was waiting for Jasleen to make the first move because I was super nervous.”

Jasleen would later find out there was another reason.

“Turns out, he had been too intimidated by my brother to make the first move,” she shares. “I found that utterly charming and romantic.”

So Jasleen messaged him herself.

“To my surprise and delight,” he says, “I got a DM from her the next morning. We clicked instantly and began to realize how similar we were. From that moment on, I knew I had met my soulmate.”

They had barely spoken in person and had never even lived in the same city, but the relationship moved quickly in the way some relationships simply do.

“I even told her that I wanted to marry her right away, which might have sounded weird since we had just started talking,” Gursharan says. “But Jasleen was such a kind-hearted, beautiful girl, and I knew she was perfect for me.”

For Jasleen, there was the same certainty.

“From that very first encounter, I knew he was the one I wanted to share my life with,” she says. “He was who I was waiting for and who I truly needed in my life. The love, the safety and the support he provides is something I wanted for a long time. They say when someone makes you forget your past, that person is truly meant for you; and he is truly meant for me.”

Gursharan puts it just as simply.

“I fell for her more and more each day. She made me a better man and always motivated me to do better. I know I won’t find anyone better than her. I wouldn’t want it with anyone else but Jasleen.”

Before they were even officially together, Jasleen had mentioned what her dream proposal looked like: Switzerland.

Gursharan remembered.

Months later, they travelled there in December, during Jasleen’s favourite time of year, visiting places she had always wanted to see. Then, in her favourite city, while she was busy getting Gursharan to help her film a video, he got down on one knee.

“That’s when I knew he would do anything for me,” she says.

For someone who grew up on romantic movies, the whole thing felt appropriately cinematic.

“I truly believe I’m living out my Bollywood love story,” Jasleen says. “I grew up loving all of the romantic movies — and now I have my own love story to tell.”

And eventually, that love story became a wedding week.

For Jasleen, choosing one favourite event is almost impossible.

“I loved just being with my family and spending the most precious moments with them next to me. I felt so loved and I didn’t want it to end.”

It’s funny to think that so much of Jasleen and Gursharan’s story came down to people almost not doing something.

Gursharan never sent the DM. Jasleen almost never believed in being set up. They happened to be at the same concert, in the same crowd, on the same night.

Luckily, Kamal was persistent.

And Jasleen eventually sent the message.
