They Followed Each Other for Months Without Speaking. Then a Mutual Friend Connected the Dots
Guneet Dhaliwal & Charn Dhillon
Guneet and Charn’s story started with an Instagram follow that went absolutely nowhere.
Guneet came across his profile, followed him, and he followed her back almost immediately. “I thought he would have sent me a message but he never did,” she recalls. Months passed without either of them saying a word.
Then, at a casual get-together, a friend asked Guneet how she knew Charn. When Guneet explained the brief Instagram encounter, her friend revealed that her boyfriend was related to him. A little matchmaking followed and, finally, Charn sent the DM Guneet had been expecting months earlier.
“We just clicked - every moment together felt so easy, so natural,”

For Guneet, Charn’s calm nature is a big part of that. “He has this calm, thoughtful way of approaching life that balances me out perfectly.” For Charn, it’s her passion and the care she puts into the people around her. “There’s never a dull moment with her around,” he says.

When Charn decided to propose, he knew Guneet wanted something intimate and simple, somewhere with a beautiful view. He planned it for a trip to Kelowna, but a week before they left, Guneet unexpectedly had surgery for appendicitis. Charn quietly rearranged the plans and made it happen anyway.
On a scenic trail in Kelowna, he got down on one knee. Somehow, they had even ended up in coordinating outfits. “The wind even felt like a paid actor,” Guneet jokes. “He made sure it was exactly what I’d always wanted: simple, sweet, and completely us.”

Wedding planning started in October 2022, with Guneet taking the lead and Charn settling very comfortably into the role of easygoing groom. “He was living his best life, agreeing with everything I suggested!” she laughs. Their trip to India became one of her favourite parts of the process, giving her time with her family while choosing everything for the week ahead.

What They Wore
Wedding and Reception

Guneet put plenty of thought into her own looks, but she was just as focused on her mom. “My mom has been my everything, and I wanted her to have her moment to shine, too,” she says. She planned each of her mother’s outfits with the same attention she gave her own. “Seeing her happy and radiant made everything even more meaningful.”

That relationship with her family made the wedding week especially emotional. Guneet was the first in her family to get married, and the reality of leaving home was hard to ignore. “It was an emotional time for me, knowing I’d be leaving my parents,” she says.

Rather than letting that sadness take over the week, her family did what they do best: celebrated. “We made the most of it and had an absolute blast!” Guneet says. “We had dance performances every single day.”

By the time she walked into the ceremony and sat beside Charn, the moment carried all of it with her. “Seeing him for the first time in that moment is a feeling I’ll cherish forever. It was surreal, emotional, and filled with so much love and happiness.”

The people working behind the scenes became part of the experience too. Guneet gives a special mention to Made in Heaven Weddings, who were with the couple from their engagement shoot to Rajasthan and throughout the wedding week. “They were more than just our videographers, they truly became a part of our journey.”

“They made us feel comfortable and at ease, which allowed them to capture the most authentic, intimate moments,” she adds.
Lux Affairs handled the wedding and reception, with Guneet giving Raj and the team room to take her ideas further. “Raj and the team went above and beyond, delivering more than I could have ever imagined,” she says. “The ceremony decor was elegant yet timeless, with every element perfectly balanced.”

Looking back, Guneet’s advice has very little to do with making everything perfect.
“Enjoy every single moment, because it flies by faster than you think,” she says. “Time with family is priceless. It’s a time you’ll never get back, so make the most of it.”
For Guneet, that might be the part worth remembering most: somewhere between an Instagram follow that went nowhere, a friend who decided to play matchmaker, and a wedding week filled with her entire family, Charn became home too.
