They Went to the Same University. Years Later, They Met by Chance

Amar and Kam went to the same university. Somehow, they never met. Years later, a mutual friend named Rimi finally introduced them. “We were introduced through a mutual friend, the lovely Rimi,” Kam recalls fondly. At the time, Kam was in Paris and Amar was in the UK. She was walking through the airport to board her flight home when his first message came through. “The rest is history,” Kam says. “I knew from the moment we started to speak that we had so much in common, and our sense of humour was exactly the same.”

There was only one problem: they lived almost three hours apart. “We soon realised that the distance was not an obstacle,” Kam shares. “We were both eager to be in each other’s presence whenever we could.” So weekends became theirs.

“We’re best friends,” they say. “We love that we can go to each other when we need advice, when we need to be lifted up, and when we want to celebrate our wins.”

For Kam, it’s Amar’s humour and how easy it is to be herself around him. “His sense of humour never fails to put a smile on my face. It’s easy to laugh with him and be silly—that’s one of my favourite things. His caring nature is undeniable, and he never fails to think about me in every situation.” For Amar, it’s Kam’s warmth. “Kam’s consistent affection, sweet personality, and selfless nature is what makes her so special. Doing life with her is amazing.”

Then came Croatia. Kam thought they were heading away for a few days in the sun. Amar had other plans. “We had planned a trip to Croatia last summer. Although we could only get away for a few days, we wanted to have some quality time with one another in the sun. Little did I know that Amar had meticulously planned the most beautiful proposal for this trip,” Kam remembers.

At sunrise, on a clifftop overlooking Dubrovnik’s old town and the Adriatic Sea, Amar proposed. “During the most beautiful sunrise, he proposed in the sweetest way and decided to have it all captured. It was perfect.” They spent the rest of the day at a beach club before dinner at Restaurant 360. “The view was to die for,” Kam says.

Less than a year later, they were planning another trip abroad, this time for their wedding. On June 21, 2024, Amar and Kam married in Valencia, Spain, surrounded by 110 of their closest friends and family.

“We planned our wedding in just under a year,” Kam says. “Our biggest challenge was perfecting and organizing a wedding that was going to take place in another country. From language barriers to vendor finding, we soon realized how challenging our planning was going to be.” One of the best parts was getting to see it all in person. “Our favourite part of the process was visiting our venues! We flew out to Spain twice before our wedding day, and the feeling of seeing our venues in person and imagining the day was indescribable.”

The events themselves felt unmistakably theirs. Amar, a longtime dholi and member of @beatsbylions, even performed alongside his friends during the wedding. “As Amar has been a dholi and part of @beatsbylions for many years, we were extremely grateful and happy that Amar got to perform alongside his friends during the wedding,” Kam says proudly.

Kam also loved her bridal mendhi by Kavita. “Kavita did an amazing job with my mendhi, and I wish I could have it all again!”

Then there was the Jago. “Our Jago night was just how we imagined it to be,” Kam says. “It was full of amazing vibes, colour, fun, and the view of the beach was incredible.” The dancing was enthusiastic enough to cause some damage. “The level of dancing caused the floor tiles to break, more than once!” she laughs.

The wedding day brought Amar’s baraat, breakfast overlooking the mountains and their Anand Karaj. “Our wedding day was the most special time,” Kam says. “From Amar’s unforgettable baraat to breakfast overlooking the mountains. Our Anand Karaj was truly memorable—something we had waited a long time for.”

Their reception carried the same balance they wanted from the start: Spain in the setting, Punjabi in the energy. “The reception was fun-filled, and our families had the best time together. This venue also overlooked the mountains, and it was just how we envisioned—a rustic Spanish vibe with the vibrancy of a Punjabi wedding,” Kam recalls. “Our favourite moment was our first dance, which took place as the sun was setting over the mountains and countryside.”

What They Wore

Looking back, their advice is simple. “Try to enjoy the wedding planning process as much as possible,” Kam says. “More often than not, the stress and deadlines can become overwhelming, and before you know it, the wedding day has arrived.”

“Plan a wedding that is unique to you as a couple. Specific trends come and go, but choosing details that are ‘you’ will always have a special meaning.”

For Amar and Kam, that meant a wedding in Spain, a first dance at sunset, Amar performing with his friends and a Jago memorable enough to break the floor more than once.
